Tomboy offers gender-neutral underwear for an affordable price to a diverse customer base, including plus-sized, gender non-conforming and specialized tradespeople. The company was founded and is lead by lesbian couple Fran Dunaway and Naomi Gonzalez.
Summary of Company: TomboyX started in 2013 when Fran found it difficult to to find a Robert Graham-style button down shirt, so began making them herself. Finding the brand ethos was resonating with customers, they went full-time, though ultimately opting to refine their product line to something that would galvanize consumers more.
Launching a women’s boxer brief line in September 2014, their revenue tripled over the course of six months. Ancillary products such as belts and shoes were cleared from their site by 2015, as they moved from being about a look to focusing on a specific product.
